RIVER COMMISSION GREENWAY SUBCOMMITTEE AND QUALITY OF LIFE JOINT MINUTES: Minutes of meeting |
Apr. 8, 2002 3:00 PM (THIS IS A PUBLIC DOCUMENT) |
|
The Miami River Commission’s Greenway Subcommittee met as regularly scheduled, on the second Monday of the month, April 8, 2002, 9 am, Miami River Inn, 118 South River Drive, Marjory Stoneman Douglas Conference Room. Dr. Martin chaired the meeting, and the attendance sheets are enclosed. | |||
Brett Bibeau
stated the Villagers (the oldest historic preservation organization in
the County) approved a $25,000 grant to fund top quality historical
markers along the Miami River Greenway.
Bibeau asked the Greenway design consultants to provide designs
for the signage. The Greenway
subcommittee discussed the draft Miami River Corridor Urban Infill Plan.
The subcommittee requested the Greenway be proposed along Wagner
Creek. In addition, they
requested the Greenway include not only cleats for recreational vessels
to tie onto the Greenway, but sewage and electrical hook-ups where
feasible. The Trust for
Public Land has contracted Curtis and Rogers, Kimley-Horn and
Associates, and Greenways Inc., to create construction drawings for the
Greenway’s development between I-95 and SW 12th Ave.
The consultants provided the subcommittee with a presentation on
their progress. The
consultants stated the Greenway development will cost approximately
$1,000 per linear foot, or $15-17 million for this section alone.
The consultants suggested a pedestrian swing bridge over the
Seybold canal between Point Park and North River Drive.
The consultants will bring updated Greenway cross-sections before
the Greenways subcommittee at their next meeting. The next
regularly scheduled meeting of the Greenways subcommittee is the second
Monday of the month, May 13, 9 am, Miami River Inn, 118 South River
Drive. The meeting was adjourned. |
