RIVER COMMISSION GREENWAY SUBCOMMITTEE AND QUALITY OF LIFE JOINT MINUTES: Minutes of meeting |

The Miami River Commission’s Greenway Subcommittee met as regularly scheduled, on the second Monday of the month, May 13, 2002, 9 am, Miami River Inn, 118 South River Drive, Marjory Stoneman Douglas Conference Room. Lavinia Freeman, Trust for Public Land, Brett Bibeau, Miami River Commission, and Jim Broton, Spring Garden Civic Association attended the meeting. | |||
The Greenway
subcommittee provided revisions to the draft Miami River Corridor Urban
Infill Plan’s Greenway chapter. The
revisions included, but were not limited to, including recreational boat
hook ups along the Greenway where feasible, depicting the proposed
Greenway path on all map exhibits, include the Wagner Creek, 7th
Ave to 5th Street, SW 8th Ave from River to SW 8th
Street, SW 12th Ave from River to SW 8th Street,
Orange Bowl connection sections, revising the Middle River Greenway
text, and revise the approved bond issue name to, “Homeland Defense
and Neighborhood Improvement” bond issue. Brett Bibeau,
MRC, and Lavinia Freeman, TPL, agreed to offer to write a Florida
Department of Transportation (FDOT) Transportation Enhancement Program
grant application for the City of Miami to submit, since they are the
only eligible entity. The
grant may fund up to $1 million for the Miami River Greenway, and is due
Wednesday, May 15, 2002. The Greenway
subcommittee discussed the Florida Communities Trust (FCT) grant
program. The program
provides significant funding for land acquisition to be used for public
greenspace. TPL’s
Tallahassee office has committed to submit the FCT grant application. The next
Greenway meeting was scheduled for June 3, 2002, 9 am, Miami River Inn,
118 South River Drive. The meeting adjourned. |
