Steve Lefton, Kimley-Horn and Associates (KHA) reported construction documents for the Miami River Greenway between I-95 and the 5th Street Bridge are underway. Lefton explained the contract for KHA to create engineering documents will be executed in early June with the Trust for Public Land (TPL) using funding from their Knight Foundation grant award. Lefton stated that at the City’s request, KHA will fast track the sections adjacent to NEO Lofts, (nearing completion on South River Drive between SW 1st ST and Flagler Bridges), and the area with development funding awarded from the “Jose Marti” Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) grant award. Lefton stated those sections will have 30% complete drawings within 2-4 weeks. Lefton and Johnson agreed that since the “Jose Marti” FDOT area will not have completed construction documents prepared by the end of FDOT’s fiscal year (July 1) they will provide FDOT with the incomplete drawings and request a 1 year extension for the grant award in late June. Lefton stated KHA will subcontract design of the Greenway logo and wayfinding system upon execution of the contract with TPL. The Greenways
subcommittee updated the Greenways development matrix.
Lefton, who designed the riverwalk for an approved housing
development on North River Drive, immediately west of SW 27th
Ave, stated he would look into the feasibility of continuing the
Greenway beneath the north side of the 27th Ave Bridge, then
turning north within the FDOT bridge right of way to connect with the
planned Greenway along North River Drive heading east.
The Greenways subcommittee decided further discussion should
occur during their July meeting, regarding an updated summary of the
Miami River Greenway’s design standards and guidelines to provide
developers. In addition,
the July Greenway meeting agenda will include a review of Lefton’s new
greenway development matrix, which will incorporate all public &
private sections, and the subcommittee will identify priority Greenway
sections for future grant applications. The Greenway
subcommittee set their next meeting for July 23, 2003, 10 am, Miami
Riverside Center, 444 SW 2nd Ave, 8th floor
conference room. The meeting adjourned. |
