Brett Bibeau
Introduced Betty Fleming who is working with EDAW, a professional
planning group involving architecture and planning students from around
the world, on a detailed plan of the Wagner Creek area.
Bibeau informed the UIWG that during the MRC heard a presentation
regarding the EDAW plan during the January 7, 2002 meeting.
The MRC unanimously passed a resolution to provide the EDAW
planning group with a Miami River boat tour, and provide available
documents and a reception if feasible.
The UIWG passed a unanimous resolution supporting coordinating
with the EDAW planning group, as directed by the MRC’s Jan 7, 2002
resolution. Bibeau provided
the UIWG with copies of the Miami River Corridor Plan’s public notice
of the 2nd round of public visioning workshops, which was
printed in three local newspapers.
In addition, Bibeau reported he e-mailed the workshop
notification to everyone who signed-in during the first round of lower,
middle and upper river visioning workshops.
The public notice is posted on the MRC, City and County web
sites. The City County
and MRC representatives reviewed all exhibits for the upcoming visioning
workshops. Lourdes Slayzak,
Assistant Director, City of Miami Planning and Zoning Department,
attended a portion of the meeting, and approved for presentation to the
public during the second round of visioning workshops all the proposed
Special District Overlays, Land Use, and Comp Plan Amendments.
The UIWG requested several revisions of the draft exhibits.
Kimley-Horn and Associates (KHA) will provide the City, County,
and MRC the revised exhibits for final approval on Monday, Jan 14, 2002,
which is before the second round of public visioning workshops. Bibeau stated Jim Murley, Sarah, Ingle, City of Miami, Lavinia Freeman and Brenda Marshall, TPL, Steve Lefton, KHA, met with Liz Plater-Zyberk, University of Miami (UM) Dean of School of Architecture, in late December 2001, about the Miami River Corridor Plan. Dean Zyberk is currently asking the UM School of Architecture professors if they would be interested in assigning renderings of opportunity sites identified in the Urban Infill Plan to their students. Bibeau and Murley stated the MRC supports the participation of the UM students. The renderings would reflect the concepts set forth in the Plan, would not be binding, and would be properly cited to the UM students, as an attachment to the Plan. Sarah Ingle stated Ana-Gelabert and Clark Turner have not approved the UM’s participation in the Plan. Ingle stated she would seek their approval, if Dean Zyberk states the professors would like to assign this project to their students. |
