The Department
of Environmental Resource Management (DERM), the Water and Sewer
Department (WASD), City of Miami Public Works Department, and the South
Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), submitted their first
quarterly progress reports on the action items included within the
approved MRC’s Water Quality Improvement Report. The City of Miami
Public Works Department provided a verbal report and will submit a
written report by April 5, 2002. The
reports are attached, and will be posted on the MRC web site.
The second quarterly report is due at the June 5, 2002 MRC
Stormwater subcommittee meeting. During the March
2002 MRC Stormwater subcommittee meeting, the East Little Havana
Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) filed a complaint regarding
stormwater and sanitary sewer overflows, adjacent to the First Street
Bridge. In response to
those complaints, the Water and Sewer Department sent a work crew to the
First Street Bridge area. A
manhole cover was replaced. Following
a recent heavy rainfall, the NET office reported to the MRC that no
overflows occurred. Currently,
the NET office is seeking funding for a beautification project beneath
the First Street Bridge, similar to the new East Little Havana Riverside
Garden, beneath the Flagler Street Bridge. The next
regularly scheduled meeting of the MRC’s Stormwater subcommittee is
scheduled for the first Wednesday of the month, May 1, 10 am, in the
SFWMD Regional Service Center, 172-A West Flagler, video conferencing
with the West Palm Beach SFWMD offices. The meeting was
adjourned
